City of San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services – Therapeutic Recreation Services
AASR offers a wide range of wheelchair sports programs that practice weekly at different sports venues in the City of San José. Cosponsored with Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association, these programs also provide regional and national wheelchair sports competitions, clinics, and camps.

Wheelchair Tennis
South Bay Smash
The South Bay Smash Wheelchair Tennis Team is based in San Jose. We welcome recreational and tournament level players to join us at our practice sessions. Our goal is to increase awareness of wheelchair tennis to not only wheelchair players but able-bodied players as well.

Power Soccer
Power soccer is the fastest growing sport for power wheelchair users. In 2006 the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) was founded, and helps support more than 50 teams across the United States. The power soccer teams practice or play most Saturdays at Bascom Community Center, 1000 S. Bascom Ave. San Jose, CA 95128
San Jose Rockets / San Jose Flash – Power Soccer Skills Development
The Flash is a newer team, split from the Rockets, to allow optimal coaching and skills development as the Rockets have gotten too large. Any individual with a physical disability capable of using a power wheelchair is eligible to join. However, whether they are placed on the Flash or the Rockets is at the discretion of the entire coaching staff. Rockets practice is Saturdays, 12 noon – 2:00pm, and Flash Practice is 1:00-3:00 pm, both at Bascom Community Center in San Jose, CA.

San Jose Steamrollers
The San Jose Steamrollers are a local power wheelchair soccer team. The team was first established in the early 1980’s. The Steamrollers are one of the founders of the sport in the United States. Practice is Saturdays, 10:00am – 3:00pm at Bascom Community Center, in San Jose, CA.

Wheelchair Basketball
San Jose Thunder / Wheelchair Basketball
The San Jose Thunder is a great chance for younger or less-experienced wheelchair basketball players to have consistent practices, and coaching from well-established players/coaches. The Thunder practices on Wednesday nights: 5:30 – 7:30pm at Bascom Community Center in San Jose, CA
California Rolling Quakes / Advanced Wheelchair Basketball
The California Rolling Quakes are a DIII wheelchair basketball team. The ‘Quakes’ practice on Wednesday nights, 7:30 – 9:30pm at Bascom Community Center in San Jose, CA.
Wheels on Fire
Wheels on Fire is a program designed to give children and youth with physical disabilities an opportunity to practice teamwork, athletics, and social skills. This program runs seasonally on Sundays, 1:00pm – 4:00pm, at Camden Community Center, San Jose, CA
